OUTCOMES AND OUTPUT GROUPS

The attached map PDF document shows the relationship between the three Departmental outcomes and the contributing outputs for the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs, presented as output groups.

The Department has combined Administered Expenses and Department outputs to form specific Output Groups. These Output Groups are aimed to address a specific area or client group.

CHANGES TO OUTCOMES AND OUTPUT GROUPS

During 1999-2000, legislation abolishing the National Board of Employment, Education and Training and its Councils, with the exception of the Australian Research Council (ARC), was passed, giving effect to a 1996 election commitment.

In December 1999, the Government released Knowledge and Innovation, a statement announcing a new policy and funding framework for higher education research and research training.  The output group structure for outcome 3 has been revised to reflect the announced changes to the funding framework, with output group 3.1 comprising programmes to be administered by the Department, and output group 3.2 comprising programmes to be administered by the ARC.

TRENDS IN RESOURCING ACROSS OUTCOMES

Note: Only 2 years’ appropriations have been provided in this graph for comparative purposes as accrual budgeting began in 1999-2000.
