2006 Science Week Grants
29 March 2006
More young Australians will get to experience the wonders of science, engineering and technology, after the Australian Government allocated an additional $100,000 to the Science Week grants this year, providing for a total of 45 projects to share in a total of $500,000 in funding.
“The Government recognises the importance of improving science literacy and has been a committed supporter of National Science Week throughout the event’s nine-year history,” the Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Julie Bishop MP said.
“In addition to highlighting the impact science has in our everyday life, Science Week is an acknowledgement and celebration of the vital contributions scientists, researchers and engineers make in shaping Australia’s future. It will also aim to inspire people to consider a career in the field.”
This year’s exciting range of events and activities will take place across Australia in schools, libraries, shopping centres and online.
Successful projects include:
- Deadly Murris Deadly Science
Hands-on, informative and empowering events in QLD aiming to encourage Indigenous children and their communities to embrace science.
- Appropriate Technology for Development
A project from Victoria highlighting innovations to improve quality of life in disadvantaged communities around the world.
- Scinema 2006
A science film festival to be held in over 120 cities across Australia. It explores the latest collaborations between science, film and art.
