Mining Careers Bursary Scheme – Applications Open in WA

The Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Julie Bishop, MP, today announced that applications for the inaugural Australian Government’s Mining Careers Bursary Scheme are now open.
"I encourage all eligible Year 10 students in Western Australia, looking to pursue a rewarding career in the mining sector to apply,” said Minister Bishop.
“Thirty successful WA students will receive a $500 bursary in 2006. They will also receive a further $500 bursary in 2007 and 2008 if they demonstrate continuing eligibility for the Scheme in Years 11 and 12.
“Bursary holders in Years 11 and 12 will also receive free attendance at two four-day mining workshops held at Curtin University of Technology’s WA School of Mines in Kalgoorlie.
“Following Year 12, if bursary holders successfully apply for entry to a mining industry related degree at the WA School of Mines, they will also receive a $500 bursary and subsidised accommodation in their first year of undergraduate study.
The Scheme is administered by Curtin University of Technology through its campus at the WA School of Mines, Kalgoorlie.
Applications close on Thursday, 31 August 2006.
