Universities receive additional $31 million for capital project23 January 2007
The Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, today announced Capital Development Pool (CDP) programme funding for “Other capital projects include the construction of new buildings in regional areas and the development of information, communications and technology infrastructure,” Minister Bishop said. Successful projects include: · $ 4 million for rural medical education infrastructure for clinical training in northern · $3 million for the construction of a pharmacy teaching building at James Cook University, for which further funding of $2 million in 2008 and $1 million in 2009 has also been allocated; · the development and upgrade of dental training and simulation facilities at Westmead Hospital and the Sydney Dental Hospital with the University of Sydney; · the development of an interactive mining engineering teaching and learning space at the University of New South Wales; and · $1.5 million for a specific purpose building for a nursing programme at the Peel campus of Minister Bishop said $93.8 million will be allocated in total in the current CDP funding round for projects in 2007, 2008 and 2009, which is double the amount available in the last round. “Further funding allocations for 2008 and 2009 will be announced shortly,” she said. CDP funding assists eligible higher education providers with capital projects. Funding of $22.9 million for twelve projects in 2007 is in addition to the $43 million for 2007 announced in December 2004. Details of the funding allocations for 2007 projects are attached.
