Inaugural National Music Education Awards
2 February 2007
The Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, today called for nominations for the inaugural 2007 National Awards for Excellence in School Music Education.
“The Australian Government is committed to improving the provision of music education in our schools, and has funded these important awards to celebrate excellence in this key area,” Minister Bishop said.
“Music programmes in schools bring many benefits and a love of music should be cultivated in our students.
“It is crucial that we recognise our teachers and school leaders for their outstanding contribution to music education. Ten teachers and three school leaders from across Australia will each receive a grant of $5,000 to further their professional development,” Minister Bishop said
“I would encourage all eligible teachers and school leaders to consider nominating this year. I also look forward to presenting awards to the top teacher and school leader in July, at the National Conference of the Australian Society for Music Education.”
Nominations for the 2007 National Awards for Excellence in School Music Education close on 30 April 2007.
