Grants to support RQF implementation
21 August 2007
The Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, today announced the allocation of over $23 million in grants for Australian universities to assist them with the implementation of the Research Quality Framework (RQF).
“The RQF is an Australian Government initiative to formulate a world’s best practice framework for evaluating the quality and impact of research conducted in our universities. It will ensure public funding is invested in research that delivers real benefits to the wider community,” Minister Bishop said.
In December last year, the Australian Government announced it would provide funding for two programmes to support universities in their preparations for the RQF.
These were:
- The Australian Scheme for Higher Education Repositories (ASHER) programme - to assist with establishing university digital data storage systems so research outputs can be submitted for RQF assessment. The ASHER Programme is yet another way that the Australian Government continues to show its commitment to making publicly funded research more readily available; and
- The Implementation Assistance Programme (IAP) - to assist universities in meeting the costs of implementing the new requirements for data gathering.
For 2007 and 2008 the grants under the ASHER programme total more than $15 million and grants under the IAP total more than $8 million.
The full lists of grants allocated to universities under these programmes for 2007 and 2008 are attached.
