Research Quality Framework specifications released
18 September 2007
The final specifications for the 2008 Research Quality Framework (RQF) were released today by the Minister for Education Science and Training, the Hon Julie Bishop MP.
The RQF Submission Specifications and the RQF Technical Specifications provide Australian universities with rules and guidance for submitting research for assessment under the RQF.
The final specifications for the RQF have been prepared in consultation with the higher education and research sector, with two rounds of consultation undertaken and trials conducted by 13 universities.
“Feedback from the higher education and research sector has been incorporated into the final specifications for this important reform that will foster excellence in the sector,” Minister Bishop said.
The RQF Submission Specifications will assist research groups and institutions in preparing their submissions for the RQF assessment process. Panel-specific guidance is incorporated in these specifications.
The RQF Technical Specifications provide advice on submitting data electronically and other guidance relating to the RQF Information Management System.
The first assessment process for the RQF will take place in 2008. Funding for the RQF in 2009 will affect two sources of current research block funding: the Institutional Grants Scheme; and the Research Training Scheme.
“The Australian Government is committed to providing a strong, vibrant and innovative research environment where quality and excellence are rewarded,” Minister Bishop said.
The RQF Submission Specifications and the RQF Technical Specifications are available at www.dest.gov.au/research/rqf.
