Graduate Employability Skills Report
10 October 2007
The Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, today invited comment on a new report aimed at improving the processes for identifying, developing, assessing and reporting on graduate employability skills.
The report, Graduate Employability Skills, examines how universities currently develop and teach undergraduate students employability skills, and how graduate employability skills might be assessed and reported upon in the future.
“I welcome this report, which will be a useful resource for the higher education sector in providing best practice guidelines for high quality educational standards, and help prepare graduates fully for life beyond university,” Minister Bishop said.
“I urge the higher education sector and other interested parties to provide comments on the report and its recommendations.
“Employers, universities and professional bodies agree that high-level graduate employability skills in areas such as communication, problem solving and strategic planning are critical to Australia’s future.”
The recommendations of the report will be considered after stakeholder consultation has been conducted.
Graduate Employability Skills was prepared for the Business, Industry and Higher Education Collaboration Council (BIHECC).
BIHECC is working on a number of initiatives to ensure high quality educational standards and world class university engagement with business and industry.
