2004 AWARDS SHOWCASE TRAINING EXCELLENCE

18 November, 2004

Tonight over 1,000 guests celebrated Australia’s excellence in training at the prestigious annual Australian Training Awards.

The gala dinner is an opportunity to honour and reward the commitment and hard work of students, teachers, employers, industry, and community organisations that pursue excellence in training.

The Australian Government is a proud supporter of this highly-regarded event for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector and sponsors four of the ten awards as part of its commitment to this key area.

The awards recognise outstanding individual achievers as well as those employers who are committed to consistent staff training; it is their commitment which provides the foundation of Australia’s strong and competitive VET system.

The Prime Minister’s Small Business of the Year Award was presented by Minister Nelson to ‘Mad About Plants’, a Queensland nursery which recognises that a well-trained workforce provides a premium product to customers, leading to better business prospects.

The Small Training Provider of the Year award was presented by Minister Hardgrave to ‘River Murray Training,’ a South Australian organisation that specialises in training for the wine and rural industries of the region.

With more than $1.06 billion in additional funding to flow through to the sector for a range of initiatives including the Australian Technical Colleges, toolkits for New Apprentices and the Australian Institute for Trade Skills Excellence, the Howard Government will continue its strong support of those striving for excellence in training.

On behalf of the Australian Government we congratulate all of the 2004 Australian Training Award winners, and wish them continued future success.
