AUSTRALIAN MINISTER FOR VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION VISITS VIETNAM

The Hon Gary Hardgrave MP, the Australian Minister for Vocational and Technical Education visited Vietnam for the first time today.

In Hanoi today, Minister Hardgrave met with Madam Nguyen Thi Hang, Minister for Labour, War Invalid and Social Affairs, and Mr Nguyen Minh Hien, Minister for Education and Training to reaffirm strong education and training links between the two countries.

Tomorrow, Minister Hardgrave will travel to Ho Chi Minh City and meet with the People’s Committee and representatives from the Department of Labour.

In Vietnam he is also visiting Vietnamese schools, colleges and universities that have established successful joint programmes with Australian education and training providers as well as the new RMIT South Saigon Campus.

“Our two countries have a long and very productive relationship in education and training and Australia places a high priority in working with Vietnam in these areas,” Mr Hardgrave said.

Minister Hardgrave is in Vietnam to discuss developments in the now internationally acclaimed Australian vocational and technical education system and opportunities for collaborative engagement in the development of Vietnam’s system.

“My visit will enable me to have useful discussions about how important it is for the future prosperity of our countries to have vocational and technical education systems that give our young people lasting skills and provide a strong foundation for their working lives,” Minister Hardgrave said.

Minister Hardgrave’s visit to Vietnam is the first by an Australian education portfolio minister since 1994 and will open up more opportunities for the two countries.
