REVIEW TO ENSURE STATISTICS MEET SKILLS NEEDS
19 May, 2006
The Minister for Vocational and Technical Education, the Hon Gary Hardgrave MP, welcomed a report that will help ensure that Australia’s vocational and technical education sector is able to respond to the nation’s skills needs and is underpinned by sound statistical and research services.
Mr Hardgrave today released the report on the review of the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) statistical and research services.
“One key recommendation is NCVER should better engage with industry on its work programme,” Mr Hardgrave said.
“While governments, training providers and researchers are traditionally major users of NCVER statistics and research, the report found employers and industry groups could benefit from NCVER knowledge.
“This information would assist employers and industry groups with their investments in training and workforce planning, and employers and researchers should work together to engage in mutually relevant research.
The report was commissioned by the Australian Government and considered a range of issues such as the services offered, value for money, impact and the responsiveness of the NCVER.
“Key stakeholders were involved throughout the review process and actively participated in face-to-face consultations, provided written submissions, participated on the review committee and provided comment on the draft report,” Mr Hardgrave said.
“The Government will consult with states and territories to work through the report’s recommendations,” Minister Hardgrave concluded.
