STRENGTHENING AUSTRALIA’S E-LEARNING FRAMEWORK

17 December, 2004 MIN 1035/04

Today I am pleased to announce the release of a report promoting opportunities to further strengthen Australia’s use of emerging education technologies.

The Australia’s Future Using Education Technology Report reveals that the mainstreaming of information and communications technology (ICT), will be a key driver of learning and business models for the 21st century and will underpin Australia’s prosperity and international competitiveness.

Contributors to the report included educators, trainers, administrators and business leaders in education.

The report’s recommendations will inform the Government on how to maximise the benefits of technology for education and training.

This will further strengthen the current national e-learning framework by:

  • facilitating national collaboration to ensure ICT infrastructure, such as internet access, meets the needs of all education and training sectors;
  • supporting the development of ICT literate professional leaders, teachers and trainers, and an ICT literate workforce for business and industry;
  • developing high-quality online content and services for Australian schools, vocational education and training providers and universities; and
  • enabling older workers to obtain basic computer training to enhance their life choices.

Fostering an e-learning culture in the education and training sectors through the best possible use of ICT will increase the effectiveness of teaching and improve students’ learning outcomes.
