PROFESSIONAL SKILLS FOR ALL CAREER ADVISERS
31 March 2005 MIN 1072B/05
Today I am launching an innovative professional development package for all career advisers including advisers engaged by schools, community workers, or parents who want to gain some skills to help their teenage children make decisions about their futures.
The Australian Career Development Studies (ACDS) package consists of:
-
Awareness of Career Development – an introductory programme for parents and other interested members of the public;
-
Elements of Career Service Delivery – three units at AQF Certificate IV level providing ‘coal-face’ skills for career practitioners; and
-
Career Development Studies – a Graduate Certificate level unit for practising career advisers.
The Australian Career Development Studies will be available online at http://www.career.edu.au, in print and in CD-ROM formats. The learning materials for each of the three learning programmes will be available free of charge in all three formats.
The ACDS was funded by the Australian Government and was developed following extensive consultation with the career sector and intensive work by a panel of experts at the leading edge of career development theory.
In addition, the Australian Government has funded Victoria University to develop a career education elective for pre-service teachers which will provide university students studying to be teachers with an understanding of career development for school students. The elective will be piloted in June and July this year, and be available for all universities in 2006.
Each component of ACDS is available online at http://www.career.edu.au. Further information can be obtained from Miles Morgan Australia on (08) 9380 6633, or email: info@milesmorgan.com.au
