CSIRO’S FLAGSHIP COLLABORATION FUND LAUNCHED
9 May 2005 MIN 1108/05
I am pleased to announce the launch of the CSIRO’s $97 million Flagship Collaboration Fund which will support enhanced collaborative research between universities, the CSIRO and other publicly funded research agencies.
Funding for the Flagship Collaboration Fund has been provided as part of the Howard Government’s ten year, $8.3 billion Backing Australia’s Ability – Building our Future through Science and Innovation package.
The Flagship Collaboration Fund will enable the skills of the wider Australian research community to be applied in pursuing the objectives of CSIRO’s National Research Flagships programme. It will fund joint research projects or larger research collaborations, as well as Visiting Fellowships and Postgraduate Scholarships.
The National Research Flagships programme is a major, targeted scientific research programme aimed at tackling key national challenges in areas such as preventive healthcare, water, food, oceans, energy and light metals.
The Flagships Collaboration Fund will assist in addressing these challenges by boosting collaboration and connectivity, with the resulting partnerships enabling a wider range of scientific expertise to be applied to Flagship research projects.
Collaborative research, often involving scientists working across previously unconnected disciplines, will be one of the hallmarks of research in the 21st century and it is highly appropriate that this should be a cornerstone of this major national research programme.
Applications for research projects, larger research collaborations and visiting fellowships can now be submitted, with funding of $8.75 million being available in 2005-06. Detailed information about all aspects of the Flagships Collaboration Fund is available from CSIRO’s website at http://www.csiro.au/Flagships/CollaborationFund
