$21.8 MILLION NETWORK OF REGIONAL INDUSTRY CAREERS ADVISERS - SUCCESSFUL TENDERERS ANNOUNCED

16 December 2005 MIN 2070/05

Young people across Australia will have greater access to quality careers and education advice with today’s announcement of the successful tenderers of the new, national network of 57 Regional Industry Career Advisers (RICAs).

The Howard Government will provide over $6 million annually to support this exciting initiative. The RICAs will be ‘on the ground’ industry champions, working with their Local Community Partnership (LCP), to provide young people, parents, employers and teachers with a comprehensive understanding of local industry skills needs, employment patterns and career opportunities.

As a result of an open tender process, the following organisations have been selected to provide the RICA Services:

  • Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI)
  • Australian Industry Group (AiG)
  • Bridging the Gap Inc
  • Central West Group Apprentices Ltd
  • Education Centre Gippsland
  • Jobnet Tasmania
  • KYM Employment Services Inc
  • Midland Joblink Inc
  • Northern Joblink Inc (Trading as National Joblink –NJL)
  • Rural Skills Australia (RSA)
  • Stirling Skills Training Inc (Trading as Jobs West)
  • Vocational Partnerships Group

The RICAs are a key part of the Howard Government’s $143.2 million Australian Network of Industry Careers Advisers (ANICA) initiative and underline the Government’s commitment to increasing support for young people to achieve a smooth transition through school, and from school to further education, training and work.

The RICAs will also be supported by the National Industry Career Specialists (NICS) Network, established by the Government to provide quality career advice and specialist information in ten Industry Sectors.

The Howard Government’s investment of $21.8 million over 2005-2009 to support this initiative, will see that young people gain a better understanding of the world of work and gain access to high quality advice to help them make successful career and education decisions. Employers will also be encouraged to attract young people into targeted careers, particularly in areas of skill shortages.

The Howard Government is committed to helping all young Australians find and achieve their potential.

No young person should feel that the value of their life is determined by the educational choices they make. Their choices in apprenticeships, TAFE or university must be equally valued.
