More incentives for Training in Engineering

Employers now have another reason to take on an Australian Engineering Apprentice with an additional 29 Diploma and Advanced Diploma engineering qualifications eligible to attract $4,000 in employer incentives.
The extended list of qualifications was announced today by the Federal Minister for Vocational and Further Education, the Hon Andrew Robb AO MP.
The newly eligible engineering qualifications cover a range of industries, such as automotive, drilling, aeroskills, mining, electrotechnology, gas, electricity supply and transmission.
“The incentives available under this initiative will encourage employers to provide more training opportunities for new and existing workers to gain or up skill their qualifications,” Mr Robb said.
“Employers will receive incentive payments of $1,500 for each employee commencing a targeted Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification, and a further $2,500 upon completion.
“I encourage industry to show its support for training at the Diploma and Advanced Diploma levels and call on the state and territory governments to ensure these qualifications are made available through Australian Apprenticeships pathways.
“The Australian Government recognises that business needs access to higher levels of technical skills to remain competitive in an increasingly global environment. Employers who provide quality training opportunities are more likely to attract and retain positive, motivated employees in a tight labour market.
“The list of qualifications eligible for incentives is under Incentives for Higher Technical Skills, part of the Skills for the Future package, investing $54.4 million over five years to support more Australian workers to undertake Diploma and Advanced Diploma qualifications,” Mr Robb said.
