Avondale College is one of Australia’s oldest private providers of higher education. It has seven faculties offering courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Situated between Lake Macquarie and the Wattagan Mountains, Avondale is nevertheless only ninety minutes drive from Sydney. Modern facilities such as a heated swimming pool, sports centre, music centre, library and shops cater for the needs of the largely residential student body. A second campus accommodating the Faculty of Nursing is located in Sydney, in the North Shore suburb of Wahroonga.

Avondale’s low staff-student ratio is designed to ensure easy access to lecturers and to make quality, personal learning possible. Courses are intended to harmonise academic learning with the requirements of the workplace, and are supported with information technology and library services.

Avondale’s philosophy of education is based on a Christian view of life which affirms that true education has to do with the development of the whole person. The themes of this philosophy continue to shape the structure of each academic program. These themes emphasise a commitment to Christian values, the importance of analytic and reflective thinking, a concern for the individuality of the student, academic and professional excellence, and the development of autonomy and responsibility.

Courses are accredited through the New South Wales Department of Education and Training and awards offered are consistent with the Australian Qualifications Framework. Relatively small class sizes ensure the recognition of individuality and greater opportunity for students to participate and interact with teaching staff.
