Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) Bachelor of Teaching The University has five campuses located throughout the Central Highlands and Wimmera regions. The Higher Education campus is located at Mt. Helen in Ballarat, while TAFE campuses are located in Ballarat, Ararat, Stawell and Horsham. The University offers a diverse range of programs that meet the learning needs of some 4,500 higher education students and 14,000 TAFE students. As a major education provider for Victoria's western region , the University of Ballarat offers a broad range of more than 60 professionally accredited undergraduate and post-graduate courses. Key areas of study include business, education, engineering, environmental management, food science, geology, humanities and social sciences, human movement and sport sciences, information technology and mathematical sciences, management, marketing, mining, nursing, performing arts, psychology, tourism and visual arts. The School of Education has established itself within the community as a provider of professional teachers, with a number of schools approaching the University at the end of each academic year for graduates. The School of Education seeks to provide students with access to professional staff and a personal learning environment. A strong emphasis is placed on the practical component of the course. Students are out in the school environment on a regular basis, to enable them to become fully prepared for entry into workforce upon completion of their course. The School offers pre-service education programs for primary and secondary teaching as well as a range of post initial courses in specialised areas such as Educational Administration, Computers in Education and Curriculum and Policy Studies. Bachelor of EducationCourse Description: The four-year Bachelor of Education provides a professional qualification for teaching in primary or primary and middle years of schooling. Principal areas of study: Education studies, curriculum studies plus a sequence of units in in disciplines other than Education - literature, social and political studies, film and media, cross cultural studies, indigenous studies, psychology, Japanese, health and physical education, computing, science, mathematics and visual arts. Course Duration: 4 years (F/T) or equivalent (P/T) Name of Campus: Mt Helen campus Mode of Delivery: Internal Prerequisites: Units 1 & 2 English (any) and two units of Mathematics (any) Other: Applicants who have not undertaken Year 12 or tertiary study in the previous three years may be required to sit a Mathematics or English or general aptitude test. A satisfactory interview may be required. Confirmation of enrolment is dependent on the Victorian Department of Education and Training's confirmation of a satisfactory outcome of a police check. Professional Recognition: Completion of the Bachelor of Education will enable graduates to teach in primary and (subject to studies chosen) primary and middle schools in Australian states and in overseas countries where a four-year teaching qualification is mandatory. Combined Degrees: None available Bachelor of Education (Physical Education)Course Description: This course is a concurrent four year teacher education degree. It has a strong orientation towards providing graduates with vocationally relevant knowledge and skills and encourages the blending of theory and practice. Students undertake core studies in the areas of bio-physical bases of human movement, psycho-social bases of human movement and human movement activity laboratories. In addition, students must also undertake discipline studies in human movement, studies in a second discipline area, studies in education (incorporating a minimum of 80 days of school experience), and elective studies. Principal areas of study: Human movement; teaching; health, sport and exercise; teachers, learners and schools; swimming and water safety Course Duration: 4 years (F/T) or equivalent (P/T) Name of Campus: Mount Helen campus Mode of Delivery: Internal Prerequisites: Units 3 & 4 of at least one of: Physical Education, Outdoor and Environmental Education, Health and Human Development, Biology, Mathematics (any), Psychology, or interstate or overseas equivalent. Combined Degrees: None available Bachelor of TeachingCourse Description: The course will take a holistic view of teachers’ work, with theory and practice informing one another. Conceptual knowledge, skills, professional techniques and affective elements of experience will be interwoven. Principal areas of study: Understanding and the linkage of ideas; information and technological literacy; personal agency (building on the concept of self); communication; planning, teaching and managing; assessment and reporting; and reflection, evaluation and review. Course Duration: 3 years (F/T) or equivalent (P/T) (one year granted as credit) Name of Campus: Mt Helen campus Mode of Delivery: Internal Prerequisites: Applicants must have completed an appropriate degree or diploma, which should be of at least three years’ duration and have been completed within the last eight years.
