Bachelor of Human Movement

The University of Tasmania is Tasmania’s only university. The University places emphasis on its location advantages, close involvement with the State’s regional populations, distinctive areas of teaching and research, its ‘community’ environment and its accessibility.

The University has two main campuses in Hobart and Launceston, and the North-West Centre in Burnie, as well as several other nearby teaching and research facilities. International students form a part of its population both on campus and offshore. It has received acknowledgment for the quality of its student services and offers recreation and accommodation facilities. The Tasmania Scholarship Scheme provides financial and academic support to highly ranked local, national and international students.

The Faculty of Education is the sole provider of undergraduate teacher education programs within Tasmania and has a number of Masters and Doctoral programs available to prospective students. In addition, the Faculty maintains a number of Honours programs in each of its courses. Students attend lectures, tutorials, and labs, which range in size from over 100 in some lectures to small groups for tutorials, practical sessions and some more specialised classes. Students in the Bachelor of Education gain first hand experience of teaching by participating in School Experience during each year of their course. The Bachelor of Human Movement is designed to provide students with professional skills and knowledge necessary to equip them for employment in a variety of human movement fields. The Faculty has a commitment to providing quality teaching and delivery of courses. A supportive environment for students is a high priority. Students are encouraged to develop their skills in technology and make use of the facilities available to them.

Bachelor of Education

Course Description: This course prepares students for teaching appointments in early childhood (kindergarten, prep, grade 1 and 2), and primary (grades 3-6) situations.

Principal areas of study: Liberal Studies; Education Studies; School Experience; Curriculum Studies. A student who completes the first three years of the course with sufficient merit may apply and be admitted to continue into the fourth year as an honours candidate. Such a student will complete many of the normal coursework requirements of the degree in year four together with an honours dissertation.

Course Duration: 4 years (F/T)

Name of Campus: Launceston campus, with year 1 being available at the NorthWest Centre.

Bachelor of Human Movement

Course Description: This course is designed to provide students with professional skills and knowledge necessary to equip them for employment in a variety of human movement fields.

Principal areas of study: Besides core units in Human Movement studies, the course includes three strands of specialisation: Exercise and Sport Science, Sports Management, and Health and Physical Education Teaching.

Course Duration: 4 years (F/T)

Name of Campus: Launceston campus.

Mode of Delivery: Internal

Year 12 Prerequisites: TCE subjects relevant to the Human Movement program: English, Sport Science, Physical Science, Biology would be of advantage.

Other: Applicants may be required to attend selection interviews.

Professional Recognition: Health and Physical Education teaching majors are recognised as having a teaching qualification in those Australian states which have teacher registration boards.
