Bachelor of Adult Education
Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood)
Bachelor of Education (Primary)

The University of Western Sydney, Nepean has campuses located at Kingswood/Werrington (the "Penrith" campus) and Rydalmere (the "Parramatta" campus). Nepean encourages students to take subjects from a number of disciplines, even though they may be attempting a highly specialised award. Nepean offers numerous combined degrees, and students are taught to work as members of a multi-disciplinary team that corresponds closely to practices in the workplace. Nepean provides a variety of learning experiences, frequently as alternatives, to enable students to develop the style of study that suits them best. In an increasing number of courses, Nepean offers the option of electronic study at home as a supplement to face to face teaching. Nepean provides a course structure designed to allow students maximum flexibility in their selection of subjects appropriate to their future career. Nepean emphasises practical experience in the workplaces of potential employers, as well as on campus. Courses at Nepean are frequently reviewed, to enable the University to respond to new demands. The average life of a course (the period between the introduction of a program and its subsequent updating) is normally less than five years. Courses aim at maximum relevance to the state of knowledge and professional practice.

The University of Western Sydney Nepean offers five specialised Education programs for school leavers. Additional separate courses are available for graduates who wish to enter teaching following the completion of another award: Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood), Bachelor of Education (General Primary), Bachelor of Education (Special Education), Bachelor of Health Science (Personal Development, Health and PE - which leads to secondary PE teaching) and Bachelor of Adult Education. Entry in to the Bachelor of Adult Education requires prior experience in working with adults, and is not available to school leavers who lack this experience.

All Bachelor of Education courses are four years in length, except for the Bachelor of Health Science and the Bachelor of Adult Education, which are three years in length. Students can withdraw at the end of the third year and receive a Bachelor of Teaching, which satisfies the minimum requirements for employment with the NSW Dept of Education and Training.?

Courses are offered at the Penrith campus, and make extensive use of the educational opportunities in the west of Sydney. The courses are practical, and are intended to produce informed practitioners who can be effective in all aspects of teaching, whether in the classroom or in the wider community. Part time attendance is possible, but with the exception of Adult Education, these courses are offered during the day only. Numerous combined degrees are available, including a combined Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Theology.

The University has abolished the traditional structure of Deans and Faculties, and operates on a system of interdisciplinary teaching teams based on "Schools" of around 15 to 20 academics and support staff. Courses are offered by collaboration between a number of schools under the supervision of a Course Management Committee.

(For example, training volunteers, providing first aid or bushfire training, coaching adults, adult swimming and lifesaving instruction, providing community welfare or environmental action education, providing team leadership in the workplace).
