In your first year at DEST you will complete a structured and comprehensive development programme, called the Graduate Development Programme.

This involves working in two different parts of the organisation on a job rotation basis and is supported by a formal learning programme.

Together these:

  • foster leadership and team skills;
  • provide experience in public policy development and implementation; and
  • promote a quality customer oriented ethic.

Our Graduate Development Programme represents a significant investment in learning and development for people, like you, who have been selected on the basis of their potential to contribute significantly to achieving DEST’s goals. Upon successful completion of this programme you will be advanced to a higher salary.

Your opportunities to develop a breadth of experience do not end when you complete the Programme. Exciting new challenges and career options are yours to explore within our diverse organisation. To help you to identify the options that best suit your career development needs, we have a number of other programmes in place including:

  • mobility within the department
  • our studies assistance programme
  • our mentoring programme

The Graduate Development Programme is an excellent foundation for ongoing career development and progression. Many of our graduates are either promoted or acting in higher positions within 12 to 18 months of completing the programme.

The Programme provides an opportunity for you to reach your potential and become a future leader within the organisation.
