Appendix 3: Good Practice Model for Case Studies

Case Studies were defined, conducted and documented on the broad basis of
the following model.
Definition
- describe the institution
- include the higher education and internationalisation context of the institution
relevant to the case study including any uniqueness;
- describe the program strategy or organisation strategy;
- describe examples within the case study;
- describe the distinctive features and points of innovation and explain why
it is an example of good practice;
- use of new technologies;
- any assessment or recognition by Australia's Committee for Quality Assurance
in Higher Education; and
- any other external assessments.
Strategy
- factors in success
- history
- leadership or culture/context or commitment
- institutional strategy;
- institutional initiatives leading to development and implementation of the
strategy;
- external or government influences; and
- serendipity.
Planning and Evaluation
- strategic/corporate plans in the area of the case study
- documentation
- targets/measurement;
- evaluation of effectiveness of the strategy; and
- procedures for improvement of performance of implementation of the strategy.
Benefits of the Strategy
- benefits to students
- impact on research and teaching;
- benefits to institution;
- benefits to community;
- benefits to Australia; and
- benefits internationally.
