Appendix II: Population Projections
The population projections used in the paper were derived from ABS,
Projections of the Population Projections, Australia, States and
Territories, 1995-2051, 3222.0, 1996. the projections were based on the
Series A projections using the Fertility II and Overseas Migration I
assumptions. That is, the total fertility rate was assumed to decline from
1.85 in 1994 to 1.75 by the Year 2004 and remain constant thereafter. Net
migration was assumed to decline from 120,000 in 1995-96 and fall to
70,000 by 1998-99 and remain constant in absolute terms thereafter.
