Tasmanian Indigenous Education Unit
Welcome to the DEST Tasmania Indigenous Education Unit Website.
This site will publicise events happening around the place, tell you
of any news regarding the Aboriginal Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ATAS),
Homework Centres and the Aboriginal Student Support and Parent
Awareness (ASSPA) programme, as well as provide a ready contact
point for things related to Indigenous education.
It is also a forum for you to tell other people about what you
may have going on in your school or area. To kick it off we have
some photos of the Margate Aboriginal
Resource Centre, which Dr. Peter Shergold, the Secretary of the
Department and the State Manager, Michael Reardon visited on 22nd
March.

Information Sessions
We are holding information sessions on Indigenous Education
programs delivered by our Department on 23rd April
(Burnie), 24th April (Launceston) and 25th
April (Hobart). We will cover information about ASSPA, Homework
Centres and tuition (individual and in-school). We will be in
contact regarding times and venues in the next couple of weeks.
ASSPA submissions
Don’t forget that the closing date for ASSPA submissions is the
1st May. Even if you haven’t heard if your End of Year
Report has been accepted, please submit anyway.
