ACT SCHOOLS RECEIVE NATIONAL LITERACY AWARDS

The winners of the inaugural National Literacy Week Awards for Literacy and Numeracy
Achievement were announced today by the Minister for Education, Training and Youth
Affairs, Dr David Kemp.
Five ACT schools received awards at a special national presentation ceremony in Melbourne,
with Florey Primary School winning a major award of $10,000.
The Commonwealth provided a total of 70 awards for primary schools across Australia. Ten
major awards valued at $10,000 and 60 awards of $1,000 recognise and reward schools that
have been able to improve and build students' literacy and numeracy performance.
"Congratulations to the five ACT schools announced in the ACT section of the awards.
They have all shown commendable achievements in literacy and numeracy, delivering
excellent outcomes for their students," said Dr Kemp.
"All five winning ACT schools have matched their literacy and numeracy programmes
with the varied and different needs of their students to achieve outstanding
results," said Dr Kemp.
The other ACT award-winning schools who were presented with $1,000 awards today are:
Arawang Primary School, Waramanga; Farrer Primary School, Farrer; Gilmore Primary School,
Gilmore and Giralang Primary School, Gilmore.
