CHOICE AND EQUITY:

FUNDING ARRANGEMENTS FOR NON-GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS
2001 - 2004

INTRODUCTION

This brochure explains how the Commonwealth will provide recurrent funding to non-government schools from 2001. It sets out details of the reforms announced in the 1999-2000 Budget.

Schools are funded on a quadrennial basis and the next quadrennium runs from 2001 to 2004.

The Commonwealth provides funding for both government and non-government schools to ensure that all students have access to a quality education.

Parents are the most important source of funding for non-government schools, providing about 45% of total funding. The Commonwealth provides about 37% and the States 18%.
