4. Definitions/Interpretations

“Act” means the Public Service Act 1999 as amended from time to time

“Agency” means a department as defined in the Act

“AIRC” means the Australian Industrial Relations Commission

“APS” means the Australian Public Service

“APS Award” means the Australian Public Service Award 1998

“AWA” means Australian Workplace Agreement as defined in the Workplace Relations Act 1996

“Continuous Improvement Agreement” means the Continuous Improvement in the APS Enterprise Agreement: 1995-96.

“CPSU” means the Community and Public Sector Union

“DETYA” means the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs

“Department” means the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs

“Dependant” in relation to an employee means the spouse of the employee; or a child or parent of the employee, or of the spouse of the employee, being a child or parent who ordinarily resides with the employee and who is wholly or substantially dependent upon the employee, unless otherwise specified in the Agreement

“DEWRSB” means the Department of Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business

“Employee” means “ongoing” or “non-ongoing” employee, whether full-time or part-time, employed by DETYA under and within the meaning of s. 22 of the Public Service Act 1999, unless otherwise specified in the Agreement

“Employee employed for a specified period” means a person employed by DETYA under s. 22(2)(b) of the Act

“Employee organisation” means an organisation of employees registered under the Workplace Relations Act 1996

“Employee representative” means a person nominated by an employee or group of employees to act on their behalf, who may or may not be an employee or a union representative

“Industrial agreement” means an agreement with relevant unions

“Partner” means a person related by marriage or a person who stands in a bona fide relationship with the employee

“SCC” means the Strategic Consultation Committee

“Secretary” means a person for the time being performing the duties of Secretary, as defined in the Act, of DETYA, including a delegate of the Secretary or a person authorised for the purpose by the Secretary

“Senior Officer” means an employee who has the classification at DETYA Executive Level 1 or 2

“The/this Agreement” means the Securing Our Future - DETYA Certified Agreement 2000

“Union” means an organisation of employees registered under the Workplace Relations Act 1996.
