How do you use this resource?

This resource is designed to meet your employment and training needs. It will do this if you have a good idea of what your numeracy needs are.

You have to decide how to use this resource.

  1. Choose the program for a particular industry.

  2. Decide if you will:

    • work in order through the skills units, testing yourself on the applications as you go

      or

    • focus on the particular skills and applications you need

      or

    • just work through the applications, using skills you already have.

Choosing a numeracy program
You will need to choose a numeracy program specific to your needs. If you need general numeracy skills, a program is provided for you. Otherwise there are eight programs tailored to specific industries.

Each industry has a description of the job areas it includes to help you make an appropriate choice. You enter the program of your choice by clicking on the image.

For example, if you work in a courier firm, you would choose the red 'Automotive, distribution and transport' program.

Click on the image to enter the program.

Use the back and next buttons or scroll through the units.

Within the programs
Each program is structured in the same way. There are units covering the skills you will need and the application of those skills in practical situations. The number and composition of these varies between the industry programs. You can work through them in order using the back and next arrows at the bottom left. Or you can jump to any skill or application. To jump, first scroll through the list on the left and then click the corresponding for skill or for application. The exit button at the top left will take you back to the list of industries.

For the arrows to work, you must enable JavaScript in your browser.

Each unit is saved as an Adobe Acrobat file. View these on screen in your browser. To do this, you may need to download and install some software.

Each unit
At the beginning of each program, you can print a checklist of the units in each program. This will help you keep track of what you have done.

Print the worksheets.

You will need to do some work on each unit. Don't try to do this work on screen. You will find it easier to print the each unit. It would be a good idea to keep the checklist and the units together in a folder. This will also allow you to keep a record of the work you have done.
