The Sporting Chance Program is a four year Australian Government initiative announced in the 2006/07 budget. The Program provides around $17.5 million to organisations to deliver projects that use sport as a vehicle to increase the level of engagement of Indigenous children and young people in schooling and improve their educational outcomes.
The Sporting Chance Program announced in the 2006/07 Budget has two elements:
- 24 School-based sports academies that will provide innovative and high quality sports focused learning and development opportunities to secondary school Indigenous students.
- 5 Education engagement strategies will provide a range of sport, recreation and education activities for primary and secondary school Indigenous students.
Note: Funding has been fully allocated and as a result applications are now closed.
