Acknowledgments
We would like to thank Mr Lawrence Weazel, Woorabinda Aboriginal Community
Council, for providing a wonderful venue for the training component of Block
A of the Train a Maths Tutor Program. Lawrence was always ready to ensure that
we had everything we needed. His support was very much appreciated.
We would also like to thanks Mr Eric Kemp, Chair, Wadja Wadja High School Board,
for his support throughout the program and for his participation in the official
welcoming of the graduands and the Community members at the graduation ceremony.
Mr Kemp also participated in the official conferring of the certificates to
the graduands.
Our gratitude also goes to Mr David Wragge, DEST, Rockhampton, for finding
the time in his busy schedule to attend the graduation ceremony and to speak
on behalf of DEST as the facilitator of the funds provided for the project.
We would also like to thank the Community members for supporting the graduands
by helping them celebrate their success. A huge thank you to Mr Valentine Murray,
for performing a traditional ceremonial dance to open
and close the graduation proceedings. Also thanks to Ms Margaret Carbine who
responded so admirably on behalf of the graduands.
Particular thanks go to the principals and teachers of Wadja Wadja High School
and Woorabinda State Primary School for allowing their IEWs time off duties
to attend the training and trialling sessions of the Train a Maths Tutor Program.
It was a “big ask” on our part and their response was very much appreciated.
Without their support, this project would not have been the success it was.
We would also like to thank our Critical Friends, Ms Lorrie Maher and Dr Miriam
Amit, and our visiting scholar, Ms Sandra Berry, for their willingness to lend
a hand where and when needed. Special thanks in this regard go to Ms Eva DeVries
who helped prepare materials in Weeks 2 and 3.
