Why is the Government providing additional vocational education and
training places for parents, older workers and people with a disability? |
The Government is providing additional training places under the welfare
reform package for parents, older workers and people with a disability,
so that they can undertake accredited training to update their skills or
gain new skills. This will ensure that parents, older workers and
people with a disability have access to high quality training that is
recognised by employers across Australia to improve their employment
opportunities. |

When will the additional places be available? |
Funding for the additional places for people with a disability will
commence from January 2006. Funding for additional places for parents
and older workers will commence from July 2006. |

How many training places will this provide? |
The Government is providing $42.6 million over three years for up to
12,300 additional vocational education and training places for parents
and older workers. The Government is also redirecting $43.3 million
from its 2002-03 welfare reform package Recognising and Improving the
Capacity of People with a Disability to provide an additional 7,600
vocational education and training places for people with a disability. |

How can I access these additional training places? |
The additional funds will be included in the Australian Government’s
offer to the States and Territories for a new Commonwealth-State
Agreement for Skilling Australia’s Workforce. |
