MEDIA RELEASE
STRENGTHENING AUSTRALIA’S UNIVERSITIES
14 May 2003 MIN 350/03
In its second year in Opposition, the Labor Party is
yet to develop a single policy on higher education.
After more than 17 months, the Labor Party is
continuing to ignore the problems facing our universities.
The only commitment the Labor Party has made to
Australian universities is Kim Beazley’s Knowledge Nation university
funding package.
The Howard Government’s higher education reform
package, Our Universities: Backing Australia’s Future, announced
last night, will double what Labor committed.
Over five years the Government’s package will
provide $2.1 billion to universities - more than $1 billion more
than Labor promised.
Over ten years, the Government will provide more
than $10 billion for higher education.
