The submission addresses issues relating to: partnerships between educators, families and children; respect for diverse literacy experiences; literacy enriched play; small group experiences; regular authentic assessment; integration of everyday functional uses of literacy across the curriculum; and last, inclusion of a wide variety of texts. The NSW Commission for Children and Young People promotes the safety, welfare and well-being of children and young people in NSW.

This submission discuses the difficulties faced by children who have dyslexia and / or learning difficulties, the effects of dyslexia, and assistance required by people with dyslexia. The submission argues that people with dyslexia are entitled to receive the assistance they need to gain an education and employment.

Association of Independent Schools of the Australian Capital Territory, ACT 
This submission sets out a number of findings the Association would welcome from the Inquiry, and provides comments under the following headings: teacher preparation and professional learning; Australian Government resources for the teaching of literacy; school flexibility to respond to the learning needs of students, and teaching strategies.

This submission describes the role of ISCA as the national peak body for Associations of Independent Schools in the states and territories, and says that it supports and endorses the submissions made by member Associations (from Victoria; from South Australia and Western Australia (jointly); and from the ACT). The ISCA submission lists and endorses a number of principles and positions from those submissions.
