The Department provides national leadership and works in collaboration with the States and Territories, industry, other agencies and the community in support of the Government’s objectives. We develop and implement policies to ensure the continuing relevance of education, science and training to contemporary needs and the growing requirement for lifelong learning. We also ensure high quality and value for money in delivering Government funded programs.
We will know that we have achieved our goals against the key result areas by measuring our business performance against the indicators set out in our Portfolio Budget Statements and our business plans. Our achievements are reported in our Annual Report.
The DEST 2005-08 Strategic Plan outlines the Department’s vision, strategic framework and summarises the 7 goals and 24 strategies. It is oriented towards building national capability, with a focus on Learning, Skills Acquisition and Building Australia’s Knowledge.
