In 1967 Australia held a referendum which saw more than 90 per cent of eligible Australians vote to count Indigenous Australians in the national census of the population and to give the Commonwealth Government power to make specific laws regarding Indigenous people. This event is often referred to as marking the first stage of the reconciliation movement in Australia.
To mark the 40th anniversary of this important event in Australia’s history, DEST has prepared a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
