The Career Services Section initiates and manages a number of career services (products and programmes) to support those who deliver career education/guidance and to encourage the wider engagement of schools, parents and community groups in the development and delivery of quality career education. The Section also undertakes research to identify options and activities for innovative ways to deliver career information and guidance for all Australians. The section works collaboratively with State and Territory education departments, non-government education authorities, career bodies, industry and professional associations on a number of career development initiatives.
Initiatives and programmes managed by the section include:
- Career Information Centres at 12 locations around Australia;
- The Career Education Lighthouse Schools project which aims to support leaders in school career education programmes, and promote project learnings and best practice models to other schools. Information about the project is available on APAPDC's website http://www.apapdc.edu.au;
- Career expos and conferences that take place around Australia;
- Maintaining and updating a range of Career Information Products. Products available include:
- Job Guide, which is provided to all Year 10 students in Australia to assist them to identify career options and pathways;
- ReCap, a resource for career practitioners; and
- a range of publications to assist individuals in the areas of job search, self awareness and skills identification including the Bullseye Posters and Parent Talking Career Choices booklets. More information on these projects can be found at http://www.dest.gov.au/schools/careers/ciproducts.htm.
