The Information Services Group manages the delivery of information and communication technology infrastructure, application development and support services, and manages the department’s information assets and services.
It promotes and supports effective governance in information technology (IT) and e-Business, including the continuous alignment of business and IT goals and strategies. The group also promotes and enhances business process management in the organisation, including data and information management.

This branch works with business groups and other stakeholders to determine application development needs. It also analyses, designs, tests and implements new applications, and provides ongoing support for existing applications.
It provides technical support for the department’s content management system, including the corporate internet and intranet websites. It also provides technical support for static internet websites, online forms and search pages, and gathers web statistics.
The branch promotes corporate-wide information management services and strategies, including the development, support and maintenance of information management tools and technology.
This branch develops and supports information systems that support the activities of the following DEST groups: Higher Education, National Training Directions, Industry Skills Development, Innovation and Research Systems, and Strategic Analysis and Evaluation,
Major systems include the Training and Youth Internet Management System and the Higher Education Information Management System. As part of its role in supporting the Higher Education Group, the branch manages the student and staff data collection activities.
The branch also has responsibility for the development and support for departmental data management strategies, policies and standards. Operational responsibilities in the area of data management include data warehouse management, data modelling and business intelligence tools.
This branch plans, develops, deploys, supports and monitors IT infrastructure, including servers and desktops, data communications, the internet gateway, and state and district office support. It ensures the security of the department’s information assets, and the recoverability of departmental systems and access in the event of an outage or disaster.
It ensures our desktop is a useful business tool, and works to ensure the department can achieve productivity benefits from emerging technologies.
The branch also manages the department’s telephone services, and desktop and remote access assets.
