DETYA Financial Services Delivery Retained Internally

Departmental Media Release

17 September 2001

The Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs (DETYA) has concluded from a comprehensive testing of the market for financial services through a competitive tendering process that the Department should continue to deliver these services internally.

The market testing is in response to the Government’s decision of November 1999 requiring all Commonwealth agencies to progressively market test their departmental services, commencing with corporate services, to identify the most cost effective means of supplying these services.

DETYA’s financial services covers financial and accounting operations, support and financial reporting. An assessment of the responses from external service providers to the package of services offered in DETYA’s Request for Tender has shown that continued delivery of these services by DETYA employees provides the best overall value for money. The Department will continue to apply benchmarking and other appropriate performance review mechanisms to provide ongoing support for leading practices and value for money in financial service delivery over the long term.

In respect of other corporate services, DETYA is currently conducting contract negotiations as part of the re-tendering of its property/facilities management and related services which are already outsourced.
