The Department has commissioned PhillipsKPA Pty Ltd to undertake a review of career development services in tertiary institutions.
Previous reviews have focused on career development services in universities. This will be the first time that the focus will be broadened to cover the VET sector including TAFE Colleges/Institutes and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) which offer nationally recognised training and qualifications.
The purpose of the review is to:
- examine the current provision of career development services in tertiary institutions, describing the context and structures for each sector (higher education, TAFE and RTOs), and comparing this with recommendations from previous reports, and with international best practice
- identify the benefits of career development services to students, institutions, employers and other stakeholders
- identify examples of good practice in the various aspects of career development services
- identify any issues that exist, and recommend ways to address these issues.
A key priority of the review will be to engage all levels of stakeholders throughout the process, in order to maximise the impact of the review at the institutional and policy level. It is expected that the final report will recommend ways the different stakeholder groups can address the issues which have been identified, and support the ongoing improvement of career development services to students in tertiary institutions.
PhillipsKPA has extensive experience in the Higher Education and VET sector, and has a strong track record in engaging stakeholders, gaining consensus and maximising the impact of project recommendations.
The final report from this project is expected in the second quarter of 2008.
