This award is open to all primary and secondary government, independent, Catholic and other denominational school teachers in Australia that offer a career or life/work programme. VET in Schools are programmes undertaken as part of the senior secondary school certificate that provide credit towards a nationally recognised VET qualification within the Australian Qualifications Framework. The training is delivered by a Registered Training Organisation or a school in partnership with a Registered Training Organisation.
The Australian Vocational Student Prize (AVSP) and the Prime Minister's Award for Skills Excellence were introduced in 2005. The AVSP recognises and commends outstanding Year 12 students who have demonstrated excellence in their vocational education studies.
These awards are linked to the Australian Student Prize which commend academic excellence. Students undertaking Vocational Education and Training in Schools and Australian School-Based Apprenticeships are eligible for nomination by their school principle. Winners receive $2,000 and a certificate.
