Evaluation of the Career and Transition (CAT) Pilot: supporting young people through their life, learning and work transitions: volume 2

This report is the second volume of the evaluation of the Career and Transition (CAT) pilot project. This volume contains case studies which document the unique experiences of each of the pilots, describing the circumstances in which certain strategies worked and others did not.

Abstract

This report is the second volume of the evaluation of the Career and Transition (CAT) pilot project. The evaluation sought to establish the ways in which the CAT pilot has provided enhanced career and transition support for young people aged 13-19 and their families, mainly through the examination of case studies. Volume 1, indexed separately, draws together the common threads of the experience of the pilots, reaching conclusions about the successful elements of the project. This volume contains the actual case studies, which document the unique experiences of each of the pilots, describing the circumstances in which certain strategies worked and others did not. In all, 23 cases are presented. Six present the implementation of the project in schools, twelve are examples of employment services adopting the pilot, and five represent educational bodies. They are taken from across Australia. Each case study lists the number of participants (actual and projected), and the number of CAT advisers working with the pilot. The nature of the implementation, its impact on students, integration with existing services, and cost effectiveness and sustainability are outlined. Conclusions about the success of each pilot and recommendations for future interventions are given.
