This section can be a place where you can store and organise information related to professional learning and updating of relevant knowledge and information.

Pamphlets, brochures and information about conferences, seminars, workshops, formal training programmes, journals, newsletters, articles of relevance, local community developments etc. can all be stored in this section of the resource.

 

Your portfolio

Career practitioners need to be well prepared and continually updating their knowledge of policy, practice, theoretical foundations, programmes, resources, client needs etc. There is also a growing requirement for career practitioners to undertake formal education and training to ensure high quality and ethical service provision.

Professional standards and requirements for career practitioners will become important issues for discussion over the coming years. It will be important that career practitioners document and organise evidence of their ongoing professional learning and involvement.

Being professional involves paying attention to a number of things and this section of the resource could involve a number of categories including:

  • formal education, training and relevant qualifications
  • conferences, seminars and workshops attended
  • membership of professional associations
  • subscription to professional journals
  • contributions to professional associations, journals and community agencies.

Personal career development plans and goals, skills reviews, action plans, as well as evidence of achievements such as certificates of participation, membership details, your résumé and other relevant items can be included in this section.

Additional items that can be included in this section:

  • draft ABCD career development competencies matrix for personal use and tracking
  • template for tracking career practitioner competencies (currently drawn from IAEVG documentation)
  • relevant developments and current events relevant to career practice.
