Australian Learning and Teaching Council

The Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) provides a national focus for the enhancement of learning and teaching in Australian universities and is a flagship for acknowledging excellence in learning and teaching.

The ALTC receives approximately $27 million annually to support a range of programs designed to enhance and support the quality of teaching in Australian universities.

The ALTC also has responsibility for the Awards for Australian University Teaching.

The Australian Learning and Teaching Council was formerly known as the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.

This evaluation of the ALTC was undertaken independently by Professor Kwong Lee Dow AM to provide information for the 2008 Review of Australian Higher Education.
