This year, the Australian Government has allocated:
- a single cohort of 90 new Commonwealth supported places in nursing, which commenced in second semester 2008. Places were allocated to the providers below.

- 1,094 new ongoing Commonwealth supported places in nursing, to commence in 2009
; and
- 500 Commonwealth supported early childhood education places to commence in 2009
.
In 2009, eligible higher education providers will be invited to submit applications for an additional 500 ongoing Commonwealth supported places in early childhood education to commence in 2010. A further allocation of 500 early childhood education places will be made in 2010 to commence in 2011.
