Quantitative data about the students was extracted both from the completed questionnaires and from the schools’ own enrolment data, permission to do the latter having first been obtained from the students by means of the permission form referred to above. Quantitative data about student cohorts undertaking the University’s own access award, the Diploma in University Studies, was obtained from the University’s data records. Additional data was obtained from a series of internal evaluations of the program conducted by staff at the University of South Australia,84 as well as longitudinal data on the students’ characteristics and educational outcomes which was included as a case study in a larger research project conducted in 1995 to explore the educational outcomes of various admission modes into the University for students with equity characteristics.85
