Commonwealth Scholarships Guidelines (Education) 2008

The 2008 Commonwealth Scholarships Guidelines (Education) were registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments on 5 December 2008 and came into effect on 6 December 2008. The registration of the new Guidelines gives effect to the new administrative arrangements for the Commonwealth Scholarships announced by the Australian Government in the 2008-09 Budget.  The changes also gives effect to the Commonwealth Scholarships Guidelines (Research) 2008 which were registered at the same time as the Commonwealth Scholarships Guidelines (Education). The new Commonwealth Scholarships Guidelines (Research) 2008 comprise the Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) and Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS).

Note to potential Commonwealth Scholarships applicants:

Individual higher education providers (ie universities) administer the Commonwealth Scholarships (CS), program on behalf of the Australian Government. The providers are responsible for conducting their own application and selection procedures, in line with guidelines issued by the Commonwealth.

Potential applicants for these Scholarships need to direct their enquiries on application procedures, deadlines, etc to the higher education providers at which they are studying or plan to study.

The requirements for the Commonwealth Scholarships are in Chapter 2 of the Commonwealth Scholarships Guidelines (Education) 2008.

In determining whether an applicant has come from a regional or remote area, higher education providers should be guided by the Australian Standard Geographic Classification (ASGC) Remoteness Areas classification. Applicants from localities other than those belonging to the Major Cities of Australia classification may meet that particular requirement.
