The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) is the Australian
Government agency that provides national leadership in education and workplace training, transitions
to work and conditions and values in the workplace. DEEWR works collaboratively in pursuing the vision
of ‘creating a productive and inclusive Australia’.
DEEWR supports the Council of Australian Governments’ commitment to accelerate educational
outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples over the next ten years. This will provide
greater opportunity for Indigenous Australians to participate fully in Australian society with cultural,
social and economic independence.
DEEWR is a principal partner of the World Indigenous People’s Conference on Education (WIPCE) 2008.
Talk to departmental staff and Indigenous Education Ambassadors at DEEWR’s ‘Meeting Place’ stand
during the conference.
DEEWR’s Indigenous Education Ambassadors fulfil important and prominent roles in Australian education.
Many are ground breakers or award winners in their fields. Chat with the Ambassadors about their
experiences as students, teachers, principals and members of various education and training advisory
boards and committees.
They will be available to talk to you during the WIPCE 2008 conference from the DEEWR ‘Meeting Place’
(look for the meeting place pole at stands 14–17).
