The call for applications is now open for the sixth round of European Union (EU)/Australia Cooperation in Higher Education and Training projects.
Applications are invited from Australian higher education and vocational education and training (VET) institutions to undertake student mobility projects between the European Union and Australia.
These projects offer the opportunity for Australian students in higher education and VET to study for a semester at a partner institution in the European Union.
For more information see Call for Applications. Applications close on 15 September 2009.
Five projects were successful in the fifth round of European Union (EU)–Australia Cooperation in Higher Education and Training projects.
This important partnership means that students from Australia and the EU can share their talent and resources and study with each other to help build a highly skilled workforce.
Around 180 Australian students from the higher education (undergraduate and postgraduate) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) sectors will have the opportunity to study for a semester in the EU.
The projects cover a wide range of topics including water sustainability, environmental journalism, creative industries, public health and the internationalisation of VET programs.
This round will involve 19 Australian institutions, including universities, TAFE institutes and private VET providers. The five projects include three in the higher education sector and two in the VET sector.
These outstanding projects are important in building Australia’s relationship with the EU in education and training, while raising the profile of European and Australian education.
They will develop joint credit transfer arrangements, support academic cooperation and encourage student mobility.
The Australian Government and the EU have each committed $2.1 million to this round.
Since 2003, 290 Australian students have studied in the EU for a semester as part of this program.
The “Australians – Study in Europe!” (ASiE
) website was relaunched on 30 May 2008 after a substantial revision and upgrade.
ASiE provides a comprehensive source of information on the many opportunities Europe offers Australian postgraduate students.
There is information including:
- application processes
- organising your life in a European country
- course information
- scholarships and grants
ASiE also features information on the large number of courses in Europe offered in English.
ASiE has specialised pages dealing with 12 European countries:
|
The Czech Republic |
Germany |
|
Denmark |
Hungary |
|
Ireland |
The Netherlands |
|
Italy |
Norway |
|
Finland |
Poland |
|
France |
The United Kingdom |
ASiE also has information about other countries in Europe and the EU’s Erasmus Mundus program. Erasmus Mundus Masters degrees are co-ordinated between different EU higher education institutions. This offers Australian students the chance to study a joint Masters degree including study at more than one university.
The ASiE upgrade has been funded by DEEWR and undertaken by the Contemporary Europe Research Centre (CERC) at the University of Melbourne.
The European Union (EU) and Australia have officially announced the successful applicants for the fourth round of cooperation projects in higher education and vocational education and training projects.
These projects aim to increase academic cooperation and student mobility between Australia and the EU. They are building on three prior rounds of student mobility projects.
The previous Australian Government and the European Commission have each committed $1.7 million (AUD) to the fourth round of the programme.
The four projects jointly funded by the Australian Government and the European Commission range from studies in international relations and security to developing environmental sustainability programmes.
The
Bologna Process involves forty-five European countries undertaking a series of reforms in order to achieve greater consistency and portability across their higher education systems. The prospect of greater mobility for students and broader recognition of qualifications across Europe may have significant implications for Australia in relation to both domestic and international students. On the following website, you will find the paper,
The Bologna Process and Australia: Next Steps, released by the Hon. Julie Bishop MP, the former Minister for Education, Science and Training, on 4 April 2006, which details the implications of the Bologna Process for Australia. It also contains a host of background materials, including historical declarations and communiqués, relevant stocktaking reports and useful links.
The Endeavour Awards
is an internationally competitive, merit-based program providing opportunities for citizens of the Asia-Pacific region to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia. Awards are also available for Australians to do the same abroad. A smaller number of awards are available for participants from Europe and the Americas.
The Endeavour Awards provide individuals with a unique opportunity to take the next step in their academic or professional career.
The Transnational Quality Strategy (TQS) includes a range of initiatives to support the quality and integrity of Australian education and training delivered outside Australia.
The TQS is designed to contribute to sustainable growth in social, cultural and other returns to Australia from delivering education and training to international students outside Australia. For more information see the TQS page on the AEI website at www.aei.gov.au/offshore
.
A key initiative of the TQS is AusLIST – the Australian list of institutions and courses in other countries. AusLIST is still in the early stages of development and is being progressively updated as institutions and their courses are approved for listing. Information on AusLIST, including how to apply, is available on the TQS website.
The AusLIST search site can be viewed at http://www.auslist.deewr.gov.au/
. For students, AusLIST is accessible from the Study in Australia
website, through a tab titled ‘Study in your own country’.
