AREN - Across the Pacific to the rest of the world
In November 2004 the 10Gbps dual link from Sydney to the west coast of the USA became operational. Through peering arrangements with the Research and Education networks in North America, Asia and Europe, collaboration of Australian scientists with colleagues worldwide is much more possible.
AREN - Northern Territory
Access to improved broadband for the higher education and research communities in the Northern Territory is currently being negotiated with a view to providing significantly improved links to institutions and agencies in Alice Springs and Darwin.

ARIIC’s Statement on Open Access
ARIIC has prepared a statement outlining its support for open access in publishing. ARIIC acknowledges that the Australian government has supported the Open Access declaration formulated by the OECD Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy. It is also noted that scholarly bodies throughout the world have issued statements and declarations relating to their commitment to open access initiatives that will enhance global access to scholarly information.

Australian e-Research Strategy and Implementation Framework
The Report of the e-Research Coordinating Committee to the Government set out the policy issues pertinent to Australia securing maximum benefit from the use of e-Research techniques. The Report proposed strategic directions that should be pursued; and proposed further steps that would allow generation of an implementation plan. It provided essential groundwork for deliberations leading to the investment in Platforms for Collaboration capability.

Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA)
The main objectives of the Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) programme are to support postgraduate research training in the higher education sector and provide financial support to postgraduate students of exceptional research promise who undertake their higher degree by research at an eligible Australian higher education provider.
Australian Research and Education Network Advisory Committee (ARENAC)
The ARENAC, chaired by Dr Mike Sargent AM, was appointed to facilitate collaboration in the development of the AREN and provide advice to the Minister on the strategic investment necessary to achieve the AREN vision.
Australian Research Information Infrastructure Committee (ARIIC)
As part of SII the Minister for Education, Science and Training, Dr Brendan Nelson, MP established the Australian Research Information Infrastructure Committee (ARIIC) in August 2003. The Minister appointed the ARIIC to advise the Government on the information infrastructure requirements of the Australian higher education sector and their intersection with the wider information and technical infrastructures used by the scholarly and research community.
