Australian Research and Education Network Advisory Committee (ARENAC)

The ARENAC, chaired by Dr Mike Sargent AM, was appointed to facilitate collaboration in the development of the AREN and provide advice to the Minister on the strategic investment necessary to achieve the AREN vision.

The functions of ARENAC are to:

  • develop and review strategic directions and plans for the development of AREN infrastructure based on the identified needs of researchers and the investors’ priorities;
  • provide considered advice to investors (Commonwealth, State and Territory governments and higher education and research institutions) about the priorities for investment in the further development of the network domestically and internationally; and
  • monitor and review the implementation and strategic outcomes of the stakeholder investments in AREN infrastructure.
